How to play

You start with four elements: Water, Fire, Wind, and Earth. Bring any two together and they make something. Every pair makes something, so there are no dead ends, only surprises.

• iPhone and iPad. Tap an element in your collection to place it on the canvas, then drag one tile onto another. Drag empty space to move around, and pinch to zoom. Touch and hold a tile for its story, or to duplicate or remove it.
• Mac. Click an element in your collection to place it, or drag it straight onto a tile. Scroll with two fingers to move around and pinch to zoom. Control-click a tile for its story.
• Apple Watch. Drag one tile onto another, or tap two tiles. Turn the Digital Crown to zoom. Double Tap opens your collection.
• Apple TV. Select an element, then another. They combine on the workbench. Press and hold an element for its story. Back clears the workbench.

Your progress

Where is my progress saved? On your device. If the device is signed in to iCloud, your discoveries, recipes found, and favorites also sync to your other Apple devices. No account is needed.

My progress has not appeared on another device. Check that both devices are signed in to the same Apple Account, that iCloud Drive is on, and that both are online. Open Elements on each device and give it a minute. Settings in Elements shows when it last synced.

Does Elements need the internet? No. It plays fully offline. A connection is only used to sync through iCloud and to report Game Center achievements.

How do I start over? Open Settings in Elements and choose Reset Progress. This returns you to the four starting elements on every device signed in to your Apple Account, and it cannot be undone.

Discoveries

How many elements are there? More than 2,200, made by nearly 14,000 written recipes. Beyond those you can find variations, such as a Frozen Fish or a Flying Pig.

What is the Discovery Journal? A record of everything you have found, newest first, with the pair that made it. Open any entry for its story: how you found it, the ways to make it that you have discovered, and what you have made with it.

I think a combination is wrong. Tell us. Combinations are written by hand and we keep improving them. Send the two elements and what you expected to support@slateapp.co.

Game Center

Achievements and leaderboards are optional and come from the progress you already have. Sign in to Game Center in your device settings to use them.
